Tipu's Fort in Palakkad
Tipu's Fort or Palakkad Fort, in its current form was built by Hyder Ali, the ruler of Mysore in 1766. Named after Tipu, the son of Hyder Ali, the fort was under the Mysore rulers for years before it fell into the hands of British during the colonial era. The fort, situated on a strategically important location acted as military base in the past. Years down the line, the fort enjoys the hustle and bustle of the city, with joggers, evening walkers and history buffs frequenting the area. This well maintained fort, with its impressive laterite walls is one of the best preserved and well maintained forts in India. Currently under the purview of the Archaeological Survey of India, this ancient fort continues to amaze visitors to Palakkad.
