The United Nations General Assembly declared 9 December 1989 as the International Year of the Family by its resolution. The United Nations increased family concerns during the 1980s and increased awareness among the public about family issues and effective ways to meet needs. In the year 1993, the United Nations General Assembly declared 15 May every year to be celebrated as International Day of Families.
World Migratory Bird Day-2022
World Migratory Bird Day is celebrated twice every year since 2006. There are two days to celebrate this day, 14 May and 8 October. The day raises awareness about protecting migratory birds and their habitats. This awareness campaign is supported by many organizations around the world, including the United Nations. The day is celebrated every year with the organization of programs under a particular theme. The theme of this year’s World Migratory Bird Day is ‘Light Pollution.’
Every year the increase in artificial light is increasing at least 2 percent all over the world. Light pollution adversely affects many bird species. This creates disorientation in the flight of birds at night, due to which the birds collide with buildings or poles. Birds play an important role in ecological balance.
History of this day:
The day was declared by the United Nations in the year 2006 to make people around the world aware of migratory birds. World Migratory Bird Day was conceived by the United Nations on the conservation of African-Eurasian migratory waterfowl. More than 118 countries participated in the event.
