V. V. Subrahmanyam Aiyar
▪️Revolutionary patriot Varahneri Venkatesh Subramaniam Aiyar was born on 2 April, 1881 in Tiruchirappalli district of Madras.
▪️He belonged to an extremist group of freedom fighters.
▪️Later, Aiyar went to London to study Barrister of Law where he met Veer Savarkar.
▪️V.V.S. Aiyar helped Savarkar organize protests in different parts of India, especially in Punjab, Maharashtra, Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh.
▪️He supervised the translation of the book 'The Indian War of Independence – 1857' (written by Savarkar in Marathi) into English and circulated it secretly in India.
▪️It was also translated into Tamil and published in the journal 'India' run by Subramaniam Bharathi in Pondicherry.
▪️Although he passed the Barrister of Law examination in London, he refused to take the degree.
▪️After returning to India he settled in Pondicherry along with other freedom fighters like Bharathi and Mandayam Srinivasachari.
▪️During Gandhi's visit to Pondicherry in the year 1917, V.V.S. Aiyar met him and became a follower of non-violence.
▪️V. V. Subrahmanyam Aiyar lived in Pondicherry till the year 1920 and here he met Maharishi Arvind.
▪️After coming to Madras from Pondicherry, he was trialled for sedition and punished.
▪️He was a follower of Bal Gangadhar Tilak and editor of the Tamil magazine 'Desabakthan'.
▪️Due to his revolutionary activities, even the French authorities once deported him from Pondicherry to Algiers.
