Windows 11 24H2 rollout has been delayed.... yet again!

Microsoft has again delayed roll-out for the "long awaited" 24H2 release because now AutoHDR has issues with colours. Seems small enough? Well, in some devices, audio is broken and there's NO workaround.

Microsoft confirmed that all audio output devices, including internal speakers, bluetooth, headset, etc are broken entirely. It was found that all devices that use Dirac Audio with the cridspapo.dll file had this problem. Meanwhile, if you haven't updated to Windows 11 24H2 yet, you'll no longer see the notification to update due to compatibility hold.

Yet another Windows L, sigh.

The US is preparing to get TikTok banned from the Play Store and App Store... again!

John Moolenaar of the Republicans and Raja Krishnamoorthi of the Democrats issued a warning to ByteDance and Shou Zi Chew (TikTok CEO) to do a "qualified divestiture" from US market to avoid risk to the national security.

We already know all about ByteDance and Tiktok and how they collect data and their link to the CCP, we don't need to talk about that.

Alphabet and Apple have been instructed to remove TikTok from their app stores by January 19. Neither of them have commented yet.

TikTok quickly has to appeal to the supreme court to avoid getting banned from the US.

Will it happen this time around?

The Qualcomm NoviSpy scandal explained in brief!

Recently a zero-day bug was marked in Qualcomm by Google Project Zero in October (it received a patch in November.) with code CVE-2024-43047.

Seems fine, no? Well, the Serbian government deployed a spyware named NoviSpy which utilises this exploit and targets many people including journalists, human rights activists and government dissidents.

It is said that NoviSpy was installed on many devices over the last few years. The number may range in hundreds.

The spyware works by communicating with BIA servers while configuration data links to a specific person.

This is just bad for Qualcomm, honestly.

The Browser Company teases Dia, its new AI browser.

The Browser Company has teased Dia - a new AI-centric web browser to launch in early 2025.

It includes features like writing the next sentence or fetching facts at the insertion cursor. The tool can also recognise your browser window and insert opened Amazon links into emails with descriptions.

Users can also type in commands in the address bar to perform various actions, like fetching a document, emailing and scheduling calendar meetings using natural language prompts.

Dia can also automate tasks, for example, adding items from your email to your Amazon cart by browsing Amazon on its own.

However, the company assures it does not plan to discontinue its existing Arc browser.

Kids under 16 will be banned from social media in Australia

Australia has passed world-first laws banning children under 16 from using social media platforms like TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, X, Reddit and Facebook from the end of the next year, to give companies time to comply.

The legislation aims to protect mental health, and companies will face fines up to $50 million for non-compliance. However, "messaging apps", "online gaming", "educational platforms" and "YouTube" are exempt from this ban.

Social media companies won’t require government ID for age verification under the new rules. There are no penalties for young people or parents who flout the rules.

Tor needs 200 WebTunnel Bridges to fight censorship

The Tor Project has urgently appealed to volunteers to help deploy 200 new WebTunnel bridges by the end of 2024. This is necessary to fight against rising government censorship, especially in Russia.

WebTunnels disguise Tor traffic as HTTPS with valid SSL/TLS servers, making detection harder. Tor has 143 bridges but is facing increasing censorship of its tools, hosting providers, and bridges.

Volunteers must have a static IPv4 address, a self-hosted website and a valid SSL/TLS certificate. Additionally, they need at least 1 TB/month bandwidth. Bridges should operate nearly 24/7 for a minimum of a year.

Contributors who establish 5 or more bridges will get a thank-you t-shirt. The campaign starts today, November 28, 2024, and will run until March 10, 2025.

Apple ordered to open up in-app purchases in Brazil.

Brazil's antitrust regulator, Cade, has ruled that Apple must lift restrictions on payment methods for in-app purchases, following a complaint from MercadoLibre. The complaint, filed in 2022, accused Apple of forcing developers to use its payment system and banning third-party digital goods.

Cade determined that Apple should allow developers to add links to external websites for purchases and offer alternative in-app payment options. Apple will have 20 days to comply with the measures, and if It fails, it will be fined 250,000 reais (~$43,000) per day.

Microsoft may train its AI on everything you type in Word and Excel

Microsoft Office has a Connected Experiences feature which reportedly allows the company to use user-created content in Word and Excel to train AI models, which means that Office may analyze articles, artwork and documents by default, without asking for user consent.

Along with that, according to Microsoft's Services Agreement, by using their products, you grant Microsoft a global, royalty-free license to use your content for providing services, ensuring security, and improving their products, including storing, sharing, and displaying it.

However, Microsoft denied the accusations:
In the M365 apps, we do not use customer data to train LLMs. This setting only enables features requiring internet access like co-authoring a document.

Yahoo launches a new Android Launcher

Yahoo has launched a new launcher, "Yahoo Launcher," six years after discontinuing Aviate Launcher. The launcher includes a unified search bar, trending news page, light/dark themes, and its own set of wallpapers.

However, it does not support third-party icon packs, app folders and voice search. The UI is buggy and stutters as well.

Yahoo hasn't made an official announcement yet, which could mean that the app is still in early development.
