🔆Corruption

रावण के अहंकार ने सेना को बुरी तरह प्रभावित किया

कुछ लोग प्रतिष्ठा और जनमत को महत्व देते हैं। वे चाहते हैं कि उन्हें अमीर समझा जाए, जबकि वास्तव में वे सिर्फ़ मध्यम वर्ग के लोग हो सकते हैं। पहले के समय में केले के पत्तों पर खाना खाने का रिवाज़ था। इसलिए, जब झूठे गर्व से भरे ऐसे लोग केले के पत्तों को फेंकते थे, जिस पर उन्होंने खाया था, तो वे उन पर अरंडी का तेल लगाते थे। ऐसा इसलिए था क्योंकि वे चाहते थे कि दूसरे लोग यह मानें कि वे अमीर हैं। कोई भी व्यक्ति जो पत्तों पर तेल चमकता हुआ देखता, वह मान लेता कि परिवार ने घी से भरपूर खाना खाया है। इस तरह के झूठे गर्व का कोई मतलब नहीं है।

वी.एस. करुणाकराचार्य ने एक प्रवचन में कहा कि रावण एक विशालकाय अहंकार वाला व्यक्ति था। राम के विरुद्ध युद्ध के दौरान, रावण की सेना ने कई वानरों को मार डाला। यहाँ तक कि राम और लक्ष्मण भी घायल हो गए। स्थिति से चिंतित होकर हनुमान जाम्बवान के पास गए। जाम्बवान ने हनुमान को हिमालय जाकर कुछ जड़ी-बूटियाँ लाने का निर्देश दिया, जिससे घाव भर जाएँ और मृत व्यक्ति फिर से जीवित हो जाएँ। हनुमान जाम्बवान द्वारा बताई गई जड़ी-बूटियों को पहचानने में असमर्थ थे। इसलिए वे एक पूरा पर्वत ही उठा लाए ताकि जाम्बवान उनसे जड़ी-बूटियाँ ले सकें। जड़ी-बूटियों को सूंघने से राम और लक्ष्मण पुनर्जीवित हो गए और वानरों को भी जीवन मिल गया।

अगर जड़ी-बूटी सूंघने से बंदरों को पुनर्जीवित किया जा सकता है, तो मरे हुए असुर क्यों नहीं उठ पाए? रावण के अहंकार ने ऐसे पुनरुत्थान को रोक दिया था। रावण ने यह सुनिश्चित किया था कि युद्ध के मैदान में गिरने वाले हर असुर के शव को समुद्र में फेंक दिया जाए। वह नहीं चाहता था कि बंदरों को पता चले कि कितने असुर मर गए हैं, क्योंकि इससे उसके अहंकार को ठेस पहुँचती। इसलिए रावण के अहंकार ने उसके अपने सैनिकों को ठीक होने से रोक दिया।
