What must we offer in the sacred fire of the Yajna? Bhagawan explains clearly, so that we may make the best of the opportunity to participate in the Ati Rudra Maha Yajna!

Sometimes some persons tend to indulge in petty thefts. This is derived from previous lives spent as a cat. Similarly, the vacillating and fickle nature displayed by a person may be attributed to a previous life as a monkey. Fickle-mindedness is characteristic of the monkey. Some persons are incurably ungrateful. They indulge even in harming those who help them. This is not a human trait. How, then, is it present in a man? It is because he must have been a serpent in a previous birth. The serpent is notorious for emitting poison even when fed on milk. So, an ungrateful person must have been a serpent in some previous life. One should offer therefore, at the altar of his mind, as a sacrifice his stubbornness, thieving propensity, ingratitude and pride. This is the Inner Yajna. Unfortunately, instead of performing sacrifices of this kind people treat goats and fowl as offerings. As a result the bad qualities continue to grow in man. It is to eliminate this evil sense of ingratitude that external sacrifices like Yajnas and Yagas have been recommended to man. Yajnas enable us to promote and refine the beneficent qualities in man.

- Divine Discourse, Oct 10, 1983.

The inner meaning of yajna is to recognise one's inherent divinity and offer all one's bad qualities as a sacrificial offering at the sacred site of one's mind.- #SriSathyaSai

Talk by Dr CS Radhakrishnan | Devotional Music Program by Vidushi Sriranjani Tapasya Santhanagopalan | Day 2 - Evening Proceedings | Ati Rudra Maha Yajna | Feb 15, 2025

The evening proceedings began with the Kramarchanam & Ashtavadhana Seva to the exquisite Sayeeshwara Lingam amidst Ghanapatham of Rudram. Traditional offerings such as flowers, bilva leaves, incense sticks were made to the beautifully decorated, magnificent lingam as the vedic chants from all four vedas viz. Rig - Yajur - Sama & Atharva, resounded through the hall.

This was followed by an address by Dr CS Radhakrishnan, a professor of Sanskrit in Pondicherry. He conveyed the latent power of Vedic chanting and the potency and impact of listening to these chants when done correctly. He expounded on the rich heritage of Bharat which has upheld and sustained the Vedic tradition and the greatness of Sanathana Dharma which has passed down the treasure of the Vedas through Shruti - listening and repeating.

He shared insights on the techniques of attaining perfection in chanting by describing the 6 Vedangas - Shiksha, Vyakarana, Chandas, Nirukta, Jyotisha & Kalpa. He described the qualities of a Vedam chanter and emphasized the importance of understanding what is chanted, clarity in pronunciation, the sweetness of unison chanting and marvelled at the Grace of Bhagawan on an Ati Rudra Maha Yajna of this grandeur and magnitude.

A music concert by Vidushi Sriranjani Tapasya Santhanagopalan, an A grade artist of All India Radio, followed next. She is a celebrated Carnatic Vocalist hailing from the renowned lineage of Neyveli Santhanagopalan.

Her mellifluous voice filled the air with vibrance and joy as she began by paying obeisance to Lord Shiva on the auspicious occasion of the Ati Rudram, with Lingashtakam. With a garland of popular Krithis, Hindustani, and devotional songs in various Indian languages she enchanted the audience with her devotion, dulcet tones and melodious singing bringing the serene and uplifting proceedings to a close.
