Indian government is currently investigating Telegram due to concerns over criminal activities such as extortion and gambling taking place on the platform. The investigation is being led by the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, alongside the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). This probe has raised the possibility that Telegram could be banned in India depending on the outcome. The situation has been complicated by the fact that Telegram lacks a physical presence in India, which makes it difficult for authorities to directly communicate with the company or request user data. Additionally, Telegram has been implicated in other controversies, such as the recent leak of exam papers in India. This investigation also follows the arrest of Telegram's CEO, Pavel Durov, in Paris, which has further fueled concerns about the platform's moderation policies
