A "biodiversity leak" refers to the phenomenon where conservation efforts aimed at protecting biodiversity in one area unintentionally displace harmful human activities to another location, essentially "leaking" the negative impact on biodiversity to a different ecosystem, often one that might be equally or even more vulnerable; essentially, it's when efforts to protect one area inadvertently harm another by shifting destructive practices elsewhere
