​​Lingasugur

Lingasugur, also pronounced as LingasugΕ«ru, is a municipal town in Raichur district in the Indian state of Karnataka. There are many Temples, hills and forts (Quila). The festivals of Muharram and Maha Shivaratri are important here. Mudgal in Lingasugur taluk has a very ancient fort. It has often been mentioned in the autobiography of Philip Meadows Taylor. Lingasugur, then known as Chavani was the site of a major British cantonment in the region. The town of Lingasugur grew from the Kasbah during the colonial era. Early medieval inscriptions have been discovered from nearby Yardona and Karadkal dating from Rashtrakuta period. The place then was known as Kardikalnadu, headquarter of region with 300 villages under its control. During the late 12th century, the headquarter was shifted to Mudgal and hence this place lost its eminence, only to be revived in the 19th century. A cantonment site was built 2 mile north of the Kasbah by the British. The region was under the dominion of Nizam of Hyderabad until 1948. Lingasugur was made a district for about 25 years in the late 19th century. The present day Koppal district, Sindhanur, Shorapur, and Shahapur taluks came under its jurisdiction. In 1905, the district was abolished and parts of it transferred to Raichur and Gulbarga districts.

​​Wellesley Bridge, Srirangapatna

Wellesley Bridge, Srirangapatna is an ancient stone bridge built in 1804 on the Highway road leading to Bengaluru from Mysuru in the state of Karnataka. This stone bridge is built across the north bank of the Cauvery River (also spelled Kaveri River). When built it was the main first artery approach to the island town of Srirangapatna (also known as Srirengapatam during British Raj) which was initially the capital city of the Wodeyar Dynasty of Mysore Kingdom after the death of Tipu Sultan in 1799. The bridge was dedicated to Marquis Wellesley who was the Governor-General of British India when it was completed, and it was inaugurated in October 1804. It was built under the overall supervision of Dewan, Purnaiah of the Kingdom of Mysore, as directed by the King Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar.

After the subjugation of the Kadambas by the Chalukyas, the district came under successive rule of empires like Chalukyas, Rashtrakutas, Hoysalas and Vijayanagar empire. Moroccan traveler Ibn Battuta is said to have stayed for a time in the district under the protection of Nawayath Sultan Jamal Al-Din at Hunnur.

​​Mundgod

Mundgod is a town in Karnataka that lies between Hubli and Sirsa. 4000 acres of land in Mundgod was gifted by the Government of Karnataka to refugees from Tibet and this settlement commemorates old Buddhist-Tibetan culture through handicrafts, restaurants and teachings. Buddhism, as recognised and preached in ancient Nalanda, is taught at the Drepung Loseling Monastery and the Gaden Jangtse Monastic College in Mundgod.
