"I am a Muslim; I can have several wives." - Mohd Hamid in High Court
'Love' Jihad Case No 60
Raipur, Chhattisgarh: Already married Mohd Hamid (43) befriended a 36-year-old Hindu girl, Madhu (name changed), and soon they entered into a relationship.
Both even had a child during the relationship. Soon, a tussle started between them, and the girl, along with her child, left him and started living with her parents.
Hamid then went to the High Court, demanding custody of the child. He even told the court that, since he is a Muslim, he can have several marriages.
The court rebuked him, rejecting his petition, saying that a live-in relationship is a blot on Indian tradition. It was a part of Western culture.
The court criticized him for being in a relationship with another girl, despite having three children and one other wife.
