💥Farakka Barrage (Dam)💥

⭐️Main objective of the barrage is to divert water from Ganges to the Bhagirathi Hooghly river system to preserve and maintain Kolkata port

⭐️It serves water to Farakka super thermal power station and also for drinking purposes
⭐️It resulted in salinity ingress and flooding in Bangladesh
⭐️In India, it leads to flooding in Bihar, population reduction of Hilsa in West Bengal and more silting in Kolkata port.
