TRUMP. TECH GIANTS. THE

WHITE HOUSE.

Trump and leading tech executives have signed a new Al agreement, putting the future of artificial intelligence in the spotlight.

The crypto community is watching what comes next for digital assets.

Al safety?...

(Race to the end)

- Trump: "I spoke to President Xi. He loves it. And, uh, because when you say "artificial intelligence," it's artificial. This isn't, this is extreme intelligence, it's superior intelligence, it's, uh, supreme also intelligence, but the word "super" is the best word of all, and it's the simplest. And so we're going to be naming it SI, superintelligence, so we don't want to hear "artificial," because it's not artificial. It's very powerful, it's very brilliant..."

Trump on giant Al companies: "They're gonna police. They're gonna police each other. They're gonna self-police. They're gonna police themselves. It's gonna work out very well."

- The Bulwark on Trump's approach to Al regulation: "It's almost an unprecedented level of irresponsibility at a historic moment from the executive branch of the federal government."

Ukraine pushes for 'bold action' on Russian assets to plug $78 billion gap in 2027.Russia's relentless airstrikes are deepening Ukraine's financial gap. As costs rise and the deficit swells, the country is pleading with European allies to tap into the immobilised Russian assets.

Ukraine has urged the European Union to tap into the immobilised Russian assets to help plug the country's financial and military shortfall next year, which could hit a staggering $78 billion (€68.77 billion) if allies fail to step up their contributions. Sergii Marchenko, Ukraine's finance minister, made the push on Tuesday as he met with representatives from international donors and financial institutions in Brussels.

EU turns page on Ukraine's $27 billion deficit, says all needs are covered. The mystery surrounding Ukraine's $27 billion shortfall abruptly ended on Thursday as the European Commission confirmed the country's financial and military needs for 2026 are fully covered.

The European Commission has concluded that Ukraine's financial and military needs for this year are fully met, one month after Kyiv flagged a $27 billion (€23.92 billion) shortfall in its Ministry of Defence that caught Brussels off guard. "Today, through coordinated joint efforts, we have identified the means to cover Ukraine's budget and defence needs for 2026," the Commission said in a vaguely worded statement shared by President Ursula von der Leyen on Thursday.

Trump is demanding that Jerome Powell resign from the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors over the cost overruns tied to the Fed's Washington headquarters renovation.

The project's cost reached about $2.4 billion, and a Fed watchdog found significant management and oversight failures, including roughly $1 billion in cost overruns.

However, the Inspector General did not find criminal or administrative misconduct.

Trump has directed Attorney General Todd Blanche to review the findings and said Powell could face a lawsuit from the U.S. government if he refuses to resign. Powell left the Fed chairmanship in May but remains a governor.

Malaysia's passport has climbed from third place to a tie for second in the 2026 Passport Index. It now offers visa free access to 129 destinations and visa on arrival in 46 more, while only 23 countries require an advance visa.

The ranking reflects how widely Malaysian travelers can move without securing a visa beforehand. For travelers, that means simpler entry procedures and fewer barriers when visiting destinations around the world.

The next thing to watch is whether Malaysia can maintain or improve its position as other countries update their visa policies and passport access changes globally.

Governor Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 2409, which prohibits state and local public officers from issuing meme coins and bars platforms from listing new ones featuring officials' likenesses starting in 2027.

The unanimous legislation is part of a larger anti-corruption package that also aids crypto fraud victims, seizes assets tied to crime, and bolsters consumer protections like refunds for canceled events.

US and Iranian negotiators are discussing a phased arrangement that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal would link Iran reopening the key shipping route with the US easing its economic blockade and potentially restoring access to frozen Iranian assets.

The Strait of Hormuz carries around 20% of global oil trade, making its disruption a major factor for energy markets and global shipping. Previous efforts to restore traffic have stalled over disagreements about control, transit conditions, and broader security issues.

The New York talks are now focused on whether the two sides can agree on a step by step arrangement. The key things to watch are the reopening of the strait, the status of US sanctions, and whether broader negotiations can move forward.

What we know about CIA warning of Russian drone threat to southern Europe. The US has warned southern states of a possible Moscow attack that would see Russia fire 600 km-range drones from commercial ships at Spain, France and Italy. We examine what is known and how the threat is mounting.

US intelligence services have shared a report with several European countries pointing to a possible Russian operation using drones against targets in Spain, France or Italy, according to Spanish media. The information was first revealed by journalist Xavier Colás - a former Russia correspondent - in the Spanish newspaper El Mundo. It traces the origin of the alert to CIA director John Ratcliffe's visit to Moscow last August, and sets out a very specific attack scenario: drones launched from merchant vessels disguised as ordinary commercial traffic.

An Israeli tally counted 77 delegations absent or departing. Among them: Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Türkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Qatar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Spain, Brazil, South Africa, Ireland and Colombia.

Israel admits not all 77 were protest walkouts. Some simply didn't attend.

The US, UK, France, Germany and the EU stayed. China kept one diplomat in the hall.

Netanyahu's response? He told any remaining "moral cowards" to leave too.

What We Wanted vs What We Got

Melania Trump was born in Slovenia and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2006, while Usha Vance was born in California to parents who immigrated from India.

Their husbands, President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, have pursued restrictive immigration policies, including expanded immigration enforcement, deportations, and restrictions on entry by certain foreign nationals.

However, describing them simply as "men who hate immigrants" is a political characterization, not an established factual description. Both Trump and Vance have framed their policies primarily around illegal immigration, border security, and enforcement rather than opposition to all immigrants.

As Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian addressed the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York on Wednesday, a member of the U.S. delegation walked out of the chamber.

Pezeshkian accused the United States and Israel of aggression against Iran, while insisting that Tehran had acted in self-defense. He also said Iran remained open to diplomacy but would not "surrender" in the ongoing conflict.

The Israeli delegation was also absent from the chamber during Pezeshkian's address. The walkout came a day after Iran's delegation had walked out during U.S. President Donald Trump's UN speech.

The exchanges highlight the deep diplomatic divide between Washington, Jerusalem and Tehran as tensions remain focused on the wider conflict and the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
