I wanted to add another pointer which I personally practice regarding this. It should be helpful. A spiritual view.
The seat of our consciousness is at 6th chakra/tisra til/shiv netra/third eye/single eye. It is situated behind our two eyes, in the centre. During the wakeful state, this is the headquarters of our soul & mind or what we can refer to as our consciousness. From this point, the currents of our soul have descended & pervaded the entire body. So, this is also the thinking centre at where we think when we close our eyes. During death or meditation, our consciousness automatically recollects here to embark on the journey further in either case.
Now in our limited understanding¹ at the physical level, what really differentiates our consciousness (which could be an admixture of soul & mind in the present state) from anybody else's, lies originally there behind the third eye. Rest of the body underneath is basically for the sustenance of life & to carry out various activities in the world. The body is largely based on genetics & other factors, giving attention to which would make a human no better than animals for he has the best power of discernment amongst all visible life which he should make good use of.
Hence, simply speaking, our interaction & sight should be eye-to-eye or face-to-face.
This insight would certainly & instantly make anybody realise that what makes anybody human isn't their body alone but rather the consciousness temporarily housed in that body. It would therefore become pointless to see anybody from neck/shoulder down unless body language is to be read for self-defence.
It requires effort & practice in correcting our view. That's how the cultivation of new & positive thoughts naturally counters & some day replaces old & negative thought-patterns.
Footnote:
¹ The holistic spiritual understanding would imply that all consciousness, when purified & detached from individual mind would be God consciousness but it would only seem to be a theory at our level for almost everybody
