When markets turn volatile, the first question many investors ask is: “Should I stop my SIP?”

🗓️ StockEdge Post-Market Report (Friday, 02 October 2026)

Indian markets closed today for Gandhi Jayanti. Figures below are from the last trading session, Thursday 01 October 2026.

• NIFTY 50: 22,421.95 (−0.88%)
• GIFT NIFTY: 22,491.00 (−0.74%)
• INDIA VIX: 14.46 (+7.15%)
• BANK NIFTY: 54,450.75 (−0.33%)
• NIFTY IT: 28,304.70 (+2.17%)
• NIFTY REALTY: 835.00 (−1.46%)
• NIFTY FMCG: 43,789.85 (−1.61%)
• NIFTY AUTO: 25,384.95 (−3.46%)
• NIFTY METAL: 12,460.70 (−2.35%)
• S&P 500: 7,666.45 (+0.19%)
• DOW JONES: 50,926.56 (+0.04%)
• GOLD: 4,171.31 (−0.16%)
• SILVER: 60.919 (−0.05%)
• WTI CRUDE: 89.41 (−3.76%)
• USD/INR: 96.3000 (−0.01%)

Nifty closed at 22,421.95, down 198.50 points. It gapped down 77 points, sold to 22,217.30 by midday, then clawed back to a mid-range close — sellers landed the blow, buyers answered. Wednesday's weak close near its low warned of this. IT was the lone sector gainer (+2.17%); Auto (−3.46%) and Metal (−2.35%) led the damage. India VIX jumped 7.15% to 14.46 — still complacency, but it printed 15.69 intraday, a first flicker of real fear. Global cues stayed benign: US indices marginally higher, crude down 3.76%. GIFT Nifty last printed 22,491 (no holiday quote), implying a ~69-point gap-up.

Nifty
Structure has turned from range-bound to corrective — lower high, lower low versus Wednesday. The 22,217 low is the line that matters; the mid-range close keeps this a pullback, not a breakdown.

Bank Nifty
Opened soft, pushed to 55,091, then faded to 54,450.75. Down 0.33% against Nifty's 0.88%, banks are leading — the only genuine support.

Conclusion
Risk-off absorbed, not surrendered: breadth was poor, the close was not. Watch whether Nifty holds 22,217 next session; a close below turns the pullback into a trend change.

• SILVER: 60.604 (−0.57%)

• USD/INR: 96.3050 (−0.01%)

Market wrap
Nifty shed 198.50 points to 22,421.95. It gapped down, probed 22,610, then unwound to 22,217 before buyers salvaged ~200 points into the close — extending Wednesday's pattern: lower high, lower low, selling into every bounce.

Sector split was wide: IT (+2.17%) closed at its high while Auto (−3.46%) and Metal (−2.35%) were dumped. VIX at 14.46 still reads complacent, but a 7% jump says hedging is returning. Global cues neutral — Wall Street steadied after closing on its low, gold eased, crude holds above $92. GIFT Nifty at 22,491 sits ~69 points over cash — a mildly positive gap for Monday.

Nifty
Structure is a short-term downtrend inside a larger range — two consecutive lower highs, with 22,217 the line in the sand. A close beneath it opens 22,100.

Bank Nifty
Opened soft, tested 55,091, slid to 54,066, recovered into the close. Down just 0.33% against Nifty's 0.88% — banks are leading, absorbing selling the broader index could not.

Conclusion
Distribution, not panic — rotation into IT is masking broad weakness beneath the index. Watch whether Bank Nifty's relative strength holds Monday; 22,217 decides.

• India VIX: 14.44 (+7.01%)
• BANK NIFTY: 54,565.10 (−0.12%)
• NIFTY IT: 28,277.30 (+2.07%)
• NIFTY REALTY: 837.50 (−1.16%)

• S&P 500: 7,651.54 (−0.25%)
• Dow Jones: 50,906.05 (−0.86%)
• Gold: 4,159.16 (−0.04%)
• Silver: 60.571 (+0.23%)
• WTI Crude: 91.95 (+1.79%)
• USD/INR: 96.3150 (+0.52%)

Nifty closed at 22,446.00, −174.45 points (−0.77%). It gapped down, failed at 22,610, slid to 22,217, then recovered 229 points into the close — a long lower wick that broke yesterday's 22,595 low. Yesterday's weak close followed through.

IT was the sole refuge (+2.07%) on a weaker rupee; Auto (−3.46%), Metal (−2.33%) and FMCG (−1.62%) led the damage.

India VIX 14.44 (+7.01%) spiked to 15.69 intraday but settled below 15 — complacency, not fear.

Dow −0.86% and S&P 500 −0.25% both closed at session lows. WTI at 91.95 (+1.79%) adds an import-cost headwind; gold flat.

GIFT Nifty at 22,489 implies a mildly positive open, a ~43-point gap.

Nifty

Lower highs, lower lows — an active breakdown, not a range. 22,217 is the line now; the recovery close argues for a relief attempt toward 22,600.

Bank Nifty

Dipped to 54,066, then reclaimed the whole fall to close flat at 54,565 — a bullish wick. Clear relative strength versus Nifty: banks absorbed supply, autos and metals did not.

Conclusion

A broad sell-off with defensive rotation into IT, not panic — VIX below 15 confirms it. Watch 22,217 on a retest; below it opens 22,000, while banks holding 54,000 caps the damage.

Sterlite Technologies Ltd. Momentum Is Strengthening Again

Sterlite Technologies is showing an interesting shift in momentum.

After some moderation last week, its Momentum Scores have started strengthening again:

1 Month: 88/100
3 Months: 95/100
6 Months: 68/100

Both are firmly in StockEdge’s bullish momentum zone, with the 3-month score now approaching the top of the range.
The key question isn’t just “Is the stock moving?”

It’s “Is momentum strengthening, sustaining or beginning to fade across different timeframes?”

• SILVER: 60.680 (+0.42%)
• WTI CRUDE: 90.37 (+0.04%)
• USD/INR: 95.8200 (0.00%)

Market Wrap
Nifty closed at 22,620.45, down 95.75 points (−0.42%). It opened at 22,665, ran up to 22,809, then bled lower all afternoon to close at 22,620 — just 25 points off the low. The entire 190-point upmove was handed back — a distribution day that cancels Tuesday's close-near-high recovery.
Leaders: Realty (+1.62%), Banks (+0.69%). Laggards: Metal (−1.50%), FMCG (−0.63%).
India VIX 13.49 (+0.58%) — sub-15 is complacency. Sellers are pressing with no fear premium priced.
Global cues soft: Dow −0.86%, S&P 500 −0.25%. Crude steady at $90.37, gold easing to $4,153.79. USD/INR unchanged at 95.8200.
GIFT Nifty at 22,566.50 implies a ~54-point gap-down open.

Nifty
Range-bound with a weakening tilt — 22,809 is now lower-high resistance, 22,569 the floor that matters. Lose it and the index trades on air; sell-the-rip until 22,810 is reclaimed.

Bank Nifty
Opened at the day's low, rallied 960 points to 55,135, then gave back half. Up 0.69% against Nifty's −0.42% — clearly leading, and carrying the index alone.

Conclusion
Weak, narrow and complacent — the bid is banks-only. Key thing to watch: whether banks absorb the gap-down open. If Bank Nifty loses its grip, 22,569 goes with it.

🗓️ StockEdge Post-Market Report (Wednesday, 30 September 2026)

• NIFTY 50: −0.44%
• GIFT NIFTY: −0.25%
• INDIA VIX: +0.04%
• BANK NIFTY: +0.69%
• NIFTY IT: +0.13%
• NIFTY REALTY: +1.58%
• NIFTY FMCG: −0.63%
• NIFTY AUTO: +0.46%
• NIFTY METAL: −1.54%
• S&P 500: −0.17%
• DOW JONES: −0.26%
• GOLD: +0.22%
• SILVER: −0.99%
• WTI CRUDE: +1.73%
• USD/INR: −0.15%

Nifty closed at 22,616.60, down 99.60 points (−0.44%). The index opened soft at 22,665, pushed to 22,809.35 — clearing Tuesday's high — then surrendered the entire move and closed near the session low. Tuesday finished strong at the top of its range; today reversed that outright. A failed breakout is a sell-on-strength tell.

Realty (+1.58%) and Banks led; Metal (−1.54%) and FMCG (−0.63%) lagged. India VIX at 13.42 (+0.04%) sits below 15 — complacency, not fear, despite the weak close. Global cues were soft: S&P 500 −0.17%, Dow −0.26%. Crude jumped 1.73% to $90.47, a fresh headwind; gold firmed to $4,187.46. GIFT Nifty at 22,659.50 implies a flat-to-mildly-positive open, about 43 points above spot.

Nifty

Range-bound with a bearish tilt — the index is compressing between 22,570 and 22,810, and today's rejection from the top of that band keeps the range intact. Until 22,810 is taken on a close, upmoves stay suspect.

Bank Nifty

Opened at the day's low, ran 960 points to 55,135.50, and held most of it into a 54,633.05 close. Genuine leadership: +0.69% against Nifty's −0.44% — the only large-cap index doing real work today.

Conclusion

Weak headline, firm internals — this reads as rotation, not distribution. Watch whether Bank Nifty can drag Nifty through 22,810 next session; failure there opens a retest of 22,570.
